About the Concert

Two ensembles come into close artistic contact in a program travelling between poetry, memory, repetition, movement, and transformation.

The first half introduces Berlin’s Zafraan Ensemble through works shaped by contrasting cultural perspectives and different experiences of musical time. After the intermission, Zafraan and Montréal’s Ensemble Paramirabo join forces, creating a larger shared space for four Canadian and world premieres.

At the centre of the second half is the Canadian premiere of Ajtony Csaba’s Taajuu, created in close collaboration with Zafraan Ensemble. Musicians move between conducting, physical movement, and instrumental performance as composition, virtuosity, music theatre, performance art, and “eye music” intersect. Bodies, gestures, and the surrounding space become integral parts of the music.

The concert reflects SALT 2026’s theme of Proximity: between two ensembles, between Canadian and international artists, between sound and movement, and between performers and audiences.
