About the Concert

Presented as part of the SALT New Music Festival, Inner Time invites audiences into the smallest details of sound: breath, resonance, overtones, silence, and the physical presence of a musician in space.

Rather than treating sound as a fixed object, the program draws attention to its changing inner life. Horațiu Rădulescu’s Inner Time explores the acoustic possibilities contained within a single tone, while Alex Matterson’s new work expands the space through bass clarinet and electronics.

Ray Evanoff’s Overwhelm approaches proximity through a composer–performer partnership that began at SALT in 2013. Materials from the score are continually reinterpreted, remixed, and reassembled through Liam Hockley’s creative process and live electronics.

This intimate encounter between one musician, his instruments, electronics, and the audience embodies one of the central ideas of SALT 2026: proximity begins with close listening.

The concert is co-presented with Open Space Arts Society in the context of the exhibition Love Songs to End Colonization by Peter Morin and Jimmie Kilpatrick.
