Experience a celebration of musical joy with the UVic Symphony Orchestra’s concert, “Jubilation.” This performance explores the vibrant expressions of jubilation in music, spanning different eras and styles. Highlighting the talents of the next generation, the concert features UVic’s 2024 Concerto Competition Winner, Olivia Hancinsky-Charette, singing Mozart’s uplifting “Exsultate, jubilate.” The concert also showcases Arturo García Cuéllar’s Master of Music graduation project as he conducts Carlos Chavez’s Sinfonía india — a piece that weaves together indigenous Mexican themes in a powerful symphonic tapestry. You’ll also enjoy the revolutionary first movement of Beethoven’s “Eroica” symphony, the energetic thrill of John Adams’ Short Ride in a Fast Machine, and Mendelssohn’s evocative The Hebrides, a musical depiction of the Scottish seascape with it sweeping melodies and evocative harmonies.
